Islamabad:The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training has taken back the administrative control of the Federal Government College of Home Economics and Management Sciences from the Federal Directorate of Education, the regulators for government schools and colleges in Islamabad.
The move marks a reversal of the administrative structure that was implemented four years ago, according to teachers, who are concerned They told 'The News' that amidst organisational restructuring in April 2020, the college's control was transferred from the education ministry to the FDE, but the move had been reversed stirring concerns among faculty members about the educational institution's administrative stability. "This seesawing of authority has left teachers concerned about administrative chaos and unresolved issues of seniority," a teacher said.
She called the ministry's decision unwise saying it will lead to administrative challenges. "Our particular concern is about the issue of seniority among faculty members as there exists a single seniority list for teachers across all federal government colleges in Islamabad.
With the college's administrative control in flux, questions arise regarding the combined seniority," she said. Another teacher said the college had an illustrious history, dating back to its establishment in 1989, of serving the educational needs of girls in the federal capital.
"Our college has boasted numerous achievements by its students over the years, making its role in the education landscape of Islamabad significant," she said. Another teacher said that the frequent changes in administrative control had left the teachers perplexed.
She questioned the rationale behind the administrative "shuttlecock." "As the college braces for yet another transition, we [teachers] are concerned about the potential disruptions and challenges that may accompany the shift in control," she said.
