Amy Vanharen is the CEO and Founder of Pumpspotting, a community-driven breastfeeding and baby feeding support platform based in Portland. Pumpspotting takes those services on the road, through The Breast Express tour. Vanharen says, “The first time around we decided that if we were really going to solve the problem of breastfeeding support we needed to meet as many breastfeeding moms as we could.” For their third Breast Express tour, Pumpspotting is switching things up, transforming an old school bus into a breastfeeding, pumping suite for moms. Becky Turek is in charge of the build out, through her company, Cornerstone Conversions. Turek says, “I breastfed all 4 of my children, experienced what most mothers do where you’re given a closet or a bathroom.. and it is isolating I think. To bring women together to have that experience and that community to empower them, I am very excited to be a part of this.”Holly Curtis, the creative design director at Pumpspotting, has a colorful design plan for the Breast Express. When it comes to breastfeeding and pumping Curtis says, “Owning up to the fact that it is a little uncomfortable, how can we make that feel light and joyful instead of hard and arduous?” Vanharen says she sees a noticeable change in the postpartum mom who enters the Breast Express, adding, “We hold her baby, we feed her, we connect her with other moms, with experts and she leaves the bus lighter, more confident and healthier.” The Breast Express Tour will hit the road late July, making stops in 13 US cities, beginning in Portland. The bus is free to moms who want to participate. This allows parents to connect with local experts, other parents, support resources, and the time to relax, build confidence and have some fun with their family. Vanharen says her goal is to normalize breastfeeding and empower women. She says, “Healthy moms mean healthy families, healthy communities, healthy workplaces. What we’re really building with the Breast Express is a movement that has tremendous impact.” The Breast Express tour schedule for this summer, will be posted HERE.
